US UPS opens new center in Montpellier

UPS has opened a new facility in Mauguio-Carnon, near Montpellier. The larger center and increased sorting capacity will allow UPS to help businesses of all sizes in southern France reach their customers in the rest of the country, Europe and globally.
“France is a key market for UPS our export volume grew by more than 10% in the third quarter of 2017,” said Christophe Boustouller, country manager, UPS France. “This investment demonstrates our long-standing commitment to helping our customers in France grow and connect to markets all over the world.”
Located in the cargo area of the Montpellier-Méditerranée airport in Mauguio-Carnon, the 15,800 square meter facility has quick access to the E15 and E80 motorways. The center has a sorting capacity of more than 2,500 packages per hour and can accommodate 65 delivery vehicles. Package deliveries in Aude, Gard, Hérault and Pyrénées Orientales are handled in the facility, which also serves as a hub for cross border shipments.
The European Union is the world’s second largest economy, offering an attractive market for cross border e-commerce and trade. With the opening of this facility, customers in southern France shipping with UPS Standard® service, the company’s most economical ground-based service, benefit from faster transit times to Croatia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain. For example, a package shipped from Toulouse to Milan will be delivered in two days instead of three. This latest round of network enhancements brings Europe closer to companies of all sizes in southern France looking to grow their business.
The Montpellier facility is part of UPS’s $2 billion investment in its European network and infrastructure through 2019. UPS has completed about 40% of this five-year investment program which is increasing scale and expanding capabilities.
Recent UPS investments in France include a $100 million package sorting and delivery facility in Corbeil-Essonnes/Evry due to open in 2018. A combined delivery facility and the UPS France headquarters also opened in Paris earlier this year.
