Tesco’s new distribution centre in Slovakia will serve Central Europe

After 11 months of preparation, the UK’s Tesco, in cooperation with partners Prologis and DHL, opened a new distribution hub in Gán near Galanta in Slovakia. This will be the most important Tesco logistic hub in Central Europe.
“Our new distribution centre at Galanta-Gán is a strong sign of our commitment to developing our business in whole Central Europe. Without state of the art distribution centres like this and without the dedicated, passionate teams that work here we simply couldn’t fulfil our mission which is to serve customers a little better every day,” said Matt Simister, Tesco CEO for Central Europe.
The new distribution centre will integrate slow moving groceries, hardline and softline, and distribute these products in Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. F&F clothes will be distributed from Galanta not only to CE countries but also to their Franchise Clothing Partners around the world (eg United States, Saudi-Arabia).
Earlier, in November 2012, Tesco opened a new distribution centre in Komorniki near Poznan. The depot is responsible for the delivery of 12,000 lines of products to more than 100 stores in Northern and Western Poland.
